The Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) is an Oklahoma State Agency responsible for the basic and continuing education and certification of Oklahoma’s criminal justice and law
enforcement personnel. Located on 342 acres in PontotocCounty, the CLEET training facility includes a 6-building, 120,000 square foot main campus, a crime scene house, a 375,000 square foot skills pad, a driving course, an armory, and a state-of-the-art, semi-enclosed baffled firing range.
CLEET is an additional major educational asset for Ada. CLEET has over 40 full-time employees located in Ada. The CLEET facility attracts up to 500 people per day to the Ada area. Basic cadet training, continuing education training, and security guard certification are just a few of the many activities that will occur daily at the CLEET facility in Ada.
The bidding process was very competitive, with 17 sites all over the state in the running. CLEET announced that Ada, Oklahoma would be the location of its $26 million facility in early 2001. Construction
was expected to be completed in early Fall of 2006. The official grand opening was held on October 24, 2006. CLEET selected Ada based partly on the cohesiveness of the community and the quality proposal submitted. The location of the CLEET facility in Ada, Oklahoma enhances the city’s plans to develop a Law Enforcement and Fire Safety cluster.
The Ada area already has a critical mass of expertise, resources, and activity related to law enforcement, fire safety, and homeland security. East Central University (ECU), CLEET, and Pontotoc Technology Center (PTC) represent valuable "anchor assets" toward the creation of a competitive advantage for the Ada area in creating jobs related to safety training and affiliated products. In addition, Ada recently attracted a new division of Globe Manufacturing, the world’s largest producer of firefighter suits and other protective clothing. These complementary undertakings represent the emergence of an industry clu
ster with potential for significant growth.
