Pontotoc Technology Center (PTC) is a part of the award-winning Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, CareerTech. The mission of the CareerTech program is to prepare Oklahoman to succeed in the workplace, in education, and life. Pontotoc Technology Center offers full-time programs in the following areas:
- Automotive Technology
- Business & Information Technology
- Computer & Information Systems Technology
- Construction Trades
- Cosmetology
- Health Technology
- Practical Nursing
Full-Time courses are designed to develop career and technical skills. Students attend classes during the day similar to the schedule of a high school or college. Many career programs at PTC are open entry/open exit. Adult students can attend full-time, 6 hours each day, or part-time, 3 hours each day. High school students who are 16 years of age or in their junior or senior year may attend classes for three hours in the morning or afternoon and some classes offer shorter hours.
Current enrollment in full-time programs is 259. The average cost of a full-time program with books and supplies is $3,580. Each year over 150 graduation certificates are conferred. The percentage of full-time, first-time undergraduates receiving financial aid is 96%.
Short term training classes are also available in a variety of different topics. Short-Term courses are designed to develop career-related skills or explore personal interests. A career path can be built by taking related classes in sequence. Many short-term classes are offered on weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays to accommodate busy lifestyles. Pontotoc Technology Center can also provide free, on site, customized business and industry training for new or expanding businesses through the training for Industry Program (TIP). Many of Ada’s businesses have utilized this program to train new employees on a variety of topics including Occupational Safety, and industry-specific training. Ongoing training after initial company startup is to coordinate at Pontotoc Technology Center.
